Spun Shop Comes Top for National Award
Posted on 19th October 2011
A relative newcomer, having only been open a year, Spun narrowly missed out on the top spot to well established stores in Manchester and Warrington in the Lets Knit! Magazine awards.
The shop was shortlisted for the ‘Best Local Yarn Store’ award earlier in the year, the magazine’s readers, plus customers and yarn lovers were encouraged to vote for their favourite to find the winner. The magazine has a reputable circulation of over 50,000, putting Spun in the spotlight amongst the knitting community.
Spun sits perfectly inside Byram Arcade amongst a diverse range of independently run and owned shops.
Young entrepreneur Lydia Tayler has been running the shop for nearly a year and will be celebrating the first birthday at the shop on Saturday 22nd October 2011.
Even though the business is new, Lydia, aged 26, is trading with long running yarn stockists and competing against other larger yarn providers, as well as flying the flag for Huddersfield.
‘To be voted top three of the awards is fantastic. I think customers recognise what Spun is trying to do, as we offer good advice on projects and stock quality yarns that they love’ said owner Lydia Tayler
Through various platforms like Facebook, Twitter and the official website, Spun has thanked voters for supporting the shop and hopes to keep bringing new yarns, hosting events and providing even better customer service in the future.
As well as stocking yarn, Spun also runs workshops in a dedicated workshop room run by professional tutors which cover a range of techniques from ‘Learning To Crochet’ for beginners, to ‘Dying Your Own Wool’ for more advanced learners.
